WATCH: City of Ekurhuleni hosts IDP meeting in Katlehong

The City of Ekurhuleni hosted an IDP meeting, giving residents the opportunity to influence planning, budgeting and service delivery in their communities.

Residents of Katlehong came out in numbers on April 14 at DH Williams Hall to make their voices heard for an Integrated Development Plan engagement hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.

The meeting brought together community members from wards 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 55 and 107 to discuss key service delivery challenges and future development plans.

MMC responsible for Community Safety, Mzayifani Ngwenya, together with ward councillors, engaged directly with residents to discuss key challenges and proposed developments.

Mzayifani emphasised that the IDP is more than just a plan, describing it as a critical tool that guides service delivery, infrastructure development, and long-term growth in the city.

During the session, community members raised concerns around persistent issues such as water, sanitation, electricity and the maintenance of community facilities.

“We attend these meetings every year, but the same issues with water, sewage and electricity are still not fixed. We need to see real change, not just plans,” said Boanetse Machona, one of the community members.

Despite the concerns, progress made through the IDP was also highlighted. Completed projects include the Mofokeng Sewer Pump Station, while the Katlehong Fire Station is expected to open in June.

Ongoing developments, such as the Credi Water Reservoir and the Dekema Project, aim to improve infrastructure and service delivery.

Future plans include sewer network upgrades in Ward 14, improved lighting in Katlehong and the development of new recreational parks in areas such as Makula and Moshoeshoe, as well as along Mlambo Street.
