SAPS arrest 36 during Operation Shanela in Kliprivier and Meyerton

The police again urge communities to report criminal activities and work closely with law enforcement to help curb crime.

The Sedibeng district saw Operation Shanela in the Klipriver and Meyerton policing area on February 20.

Officers arrested 36 people for various crimes, including drug possession and dealing, being undocumented immigrants and employing illegal workers, issued fines to liquor outlets for non-compliance and fined motorists.

Strengthening community partnerships

As part of the operation’s second phase, a community engagement initiative fostered collaboration between law enforcement agencies and residents.

SAPS officers, the CPF members and other stakeholders engaged with community members at the Boitumelo informal settlement in Klipriver to discuss crime prevention.

Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba from the Sedibeng SAPS spoke about the crimes in the area and urged residents to participate in crime prevention initiatives like CPFs, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk and Spiritual Crime Prevention programmes.

She appreciated the community’s willingness to collaborate with law enforcement, stressing their role in maintaining safety.

Ndaba said community members serve as the police’s eyes and ears, urging them to report criminal activities and support crime prevention efforts.

The engagement was well received, with community members appreciative of a chance to interact with Sedibeng district management and its stakeholders.

Addressing safety and security concerns

Simultaneously, Major General Mukhwevho and a team of officers joined Department of Correctional Services officials for an imbizo at the Sicelo Community Hall in the Meyerton policing area.
