Two men arrested in Alberton for posing as police officers

The suspects were driving a vehicle with fraudulent licence plates and carried fake police IDs.

Two men were arrested in Alberton for pretending to be SAPS officers. The suspects were driving a vehicle with fraudulent licence plates and they had fake police IDs.

The suspects stole a cellphone belonging to an unidentified member of the public. The victim of the phone theft approached CPS Security’s tactical response unit, who were on regular patrol, for help.

Security officers were given a description the suspects’ getaway vehicle which was circulated to other patrol officers and a search ensued.

With the assistance of EMPD and SAPS, security officers tracked the vehicle down to Potgieter Road in Alberton, and the suspects were nabbed.

They were subsequently linked to another theft case in Alberton North, where a victim lost a cellphone and R7 000 in cash.

Law enforcement will open two separate case files against the two individuals for the incident on Potgieter Road and Alberton North.

SAPS members were on the scene when the imposters were nabbed.
