WATCH: IPID arrests 6 EMPD officers on allegations of robbery

Investigators say the six officers robbed a Congolese man legally in SA and searched his house without a warrant.

Investigators from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) arrested six EMPD officers on allegations of robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice on March 5 in Kempton Park.

The officers are from EMPD’s drug unit.

“It is alleged that on March 5, the accused officers stopped the victim, a Congolese national, for an alleged traffic offence. They requested his identification to confirm if he was in the country legally, which he did. Thereafter, they verified his credentials at Home Affairs Boksburg,” said the IPID in a press statement.

“After the verification, they allegedly drove with him to his house in one of the estates in Boksburg, where they searched it without a search warrant and confiscated an amount of money they found. The six officers are detained at the Boksburg SAPS and will soon appear in court,” added the IPID.
