4 suspects arrested following murder of JMPD officer in Leondale
The four suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
A coordinated police operation led to the arrest of four suspects believed to be connected to the fatal shooting of a JMPD officer in Leondale on April 16.
According to a statement from Colonel Letloenyane, station commander of Alberton SAPS, intelligence received regarding the suspects’ whereabouts was swiftly acted upon.
Law enforcement officials descended on a property in Leondale where two suspects were apprehended.
Police recovered an R5 rifle, an AK-9, two pistols, and the vehicle allegedly used in the officer’s killing.
Further investigation at the same address led to the recovery of a stolen car previously reported at Bramley SAPS and a hijacked VW Polo from Westonaria.
A total of three vehicles were seized – one used in the commission of the crime, one hijacked, and one reported stolen.
Police confiscated two rifles, five pistols, 52 live rifle rounds, and 32 live pistol rounds during the operation.
Letloenyane praised the swift and collaborative efforts of all units involved, commending them for the swift arrest of the suspects involved in what he described as a senseless killing of an off-duty officer.
