SAPS arrest 4 with unlicensed guns

SAPS officers confiscated R350 000 worth of illegal substances and arrested four people in the Leondale and Spruitview areas.

The EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit Officers (CLU) and other law enforcement agencies recently arrested four men in the Leondale and Spruitview areas.

Following up on information about a hitman involved in taxi violence, officers proceeded to a residence on Sweetthorn Crescent, Loendale.

Upon arrival, they found three occupants and searched them, finding a rifle with its serial number filed down and a magazine hidden in the ceiling of a room.

Officers also discovered 31 rounds of live rifle ammunition and a SAPS bullet-proof vest.

While interrogating the men, information led the officers to a residence on Sikhakhane Street, Spruitview, where they found one occupant with two 9mm pistols with live ammunition, a magazine and 769 Mandrax tablets valued at about R350 000.

Investigations continued and led officers to a third house in Windmill Park, where they found four 9mm pistols and a rifle with live ammunition.

The four face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of illegal substances. They will soon appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
