WATCH: Alberton murder-accused couple back in court, accused 2 claims heart condition

Delichia Bekker (43) asked the court to transfer her to the hospital section of the prison, claiming she has a heart condition.

The case involving the murder of then Verwoerdpark resident, Susan Gillian Murray, was heard at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on May 9.

Murray’s decomposed body was found dumped in Alberton North in November 2023.

The accused are Werner Jack Schoeman (42) and Delichia Bekker (43). Schoeman was arrested when in hiding in South Hills in 2023. Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in the mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman.

Schoeman (accused one) and Bekker (accused two) dated and lived with Murray on Oribi Street in Verwoerdpark at the time of her death.

At the May 9 hearing, the State prosecutor requested a further postponement to consult with witnesses and because of what he called “the matter (case) being of a complicated nature.”

The State prosecutor also wants to properly draft annexures, which will be shared with the accused’s lawyer.

Annexures are attached to applications, motions or pleadings to provide supporting evidence or details not included in the main document.

Bekker’s request to be transferred to the hospital (Section J7 process):

Bekker asked the court to transfer her to the hospital section of the prison, claiming she suffers from a heart condition.

The presiding officer in the court granted her request and ordered that she be transferred to the hospital section of the prison. It is usual for courts to endorse (grant) J7 requests, where a prisoner is sent to the hospital section of the prison.

Schoeman and Bekker’s lawyer did not oppose the request for a final postponement.

The couple will return to court on June 4 and currently remain in custody.
