WATCH: Brackenhurst Primary learners support Hospice children with creative fundraiser

With just R5 and a burst of creativity, Brackenhurst Primary learners raised R1 400 to support children's unit at the Stepping Stone Hospice.

Learners from Brackenhurst Primary School have made a meaningful impact on the lives of children in Stepping Stone Hospice care by participating in a colouring-in competition.

An entry fee of just R5 helped raise vital funds for young patients.

The initiative, led by the school, saw 99 learners from Grades 4 to 6 enthusiastically take part, with some even submitting more than one entry.

The competition brought joy and colour to classrooms and raised R1 400 in support of children receiving palliative care.

Teacher and competition facilitator Tina Grobler said that despite the modest entry fee, the collective effort of learners, teachers, and parents showed how small contributions can create meaningful change.

“The project was praised for combining creativity with compassion, highlighting the learners’ willingness to help others after learning about the cause behind the competition,” Grobler said.

In recognition of their efforts, six standout participants received certificates of appreciation and achievement. Their artistic contributions were celebrated as both creative expressions and acts of kindness.

Stepping Stone Hospice expressed deep gratitude to Brackenhurst Primary for promoting social responsibility among young people and confirmed that the school is committed to hosting an even larger colouring-in competition next year.

The school and hospice look forward to expanding the initiative and hope to involve more schools in the future.
