The presiding magistrate rolled the trial over to September 16 to ensure Schoeman was present during all trial proceedings.
Schoeman and Bekker’s case stems from a murder in Alberton in 2023.

They stand accused of murdering Susan Gillian Murray (75). The pair lived with Murray on Oribi Street in Verwoerdpark, Alberton.

Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in her mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman. He was arrested while hiding in South Hills. Murray’s decomposed body was found dumped in Alberton North in November 2023.

Day one on the trial reveals shocking details (recap):

During the trial on September 15, the State prosecutor read an affidavit from an Alberton SAPS officer who responded to a body found in Alberton North.

“As we walked into the bush, I noticed a pile of stones on top of a green tent. It seemed as if the stones were barring the tent from moving. After moving the stones and cutting open the tent, paramedics found the decomposing body of a white female inside. The deceased wore a black and white top, a pink dress and no shoes,” read the affidavit.

“She was an unknown person. Upon investigation, I noticed blood on the deceased’s head. It appeared she had a head wound. Her hands were tied behind her back. It appeared she had been murdered, buried in the bush and her body covered with stones, a tent and a blue sheet. The Germiston Mortuary collected the deceased,” added the affidavit marked exhibit E.

The trial continues.
