Swift security action results in arrest and stopping theft of traffic lights
Rapid response by CPS Security led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of stolen traffic light infrastructure in Alberton North, highlighting the ongoing fight against infrastructure crime.
Swift action by CPS Security and law enforcement led to the arrest of a suspect linked to the theft of traffic lights in Alberton North on the evening of February 6.
At approximately 22:50, CPS Security received information about suspects allegedly stealing traffic light infrastructure at the corner of Gerrit Maritz Street and 2nd Avenue.
Reaction units were immediately dispatched to the scene and detained one suspect.
Tools believed to have been used in the commission of the crime, along with the stolen traffic light components, were recovered on site.

SAPS was promptly notified, and the suspect was handed over for further investigation and formal processing.
CPS Security director Tyrone van der Merwe said the theft of traffic lights is not a victimless crime.
“It places motorists, pedestrians, and commuters at serious risk. Our teams acted swiftly to prevent further damage and to ensure the suspect was handed over to SAPS to face the full might of the law,” he said.
He added that CPS Security remains committed to working closely with law enforcement and the community to combat infrastructure-related crimes.
