2 suspects arrested after robberies in Alberts Park and Mayberry Park

The arrests follow two street robberies in Alberts Park and Mayberry Park, highlighting robbery with aggravating circumstances as one of Alberton’s most reported crimes.

Two suspects have been arrested following street robberies in the General Alberts Park and Mayberry Park areas, as concerns grow over the prevalence of serious robberies in Alberton.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe, director of CPS Security, the incidents took place yesterday, prompting a coordinated response from private security and law enforcement.

Working together with React 24, teams tracked a suspect vehicle linked to the robberies to a nearby premises, where two suspects were located and arrested.

During the operation, authorities recovered a blank gun and narcotics, including Mandrax. Stolen items, among them cellphones, were also seized and later traced to a local pawn shop.

Members of the Alberton SAPS arrested both suspects. At this stage, one victim has opened a case, and police are urging other victims to come forward.

Serious robberies remain a leading concern

The incident reflects a broader trend in the area. According to 2025 crime statistics, released by Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia, robbery with aggravating circumstances remains the most reported crime affecting Alberton residents.

“If you were also robbed, please report it to Alberton SAPS,” he said.
