Family shattered after Polo owner shot and killed in Thokoza hijacking

Kathorus Crime Watch has appealed to the public for information after a VW Polo was hijacked in Thokoza and the owner was shot and killed on scene. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the vehicle.

A community is mourning following a fatal hijacking in Thokoza’s Khumalo Street this past Saturday.

According to Kathorus Crime Watch, the owner of a white Volkswagen Polo was shot and killed during the incident before the suspects fled the scene with the vehicle.

The hijacked vehicle’s registration number is LC 36 JW GP.

Kathorus Crime Watch confirmed that a reward will be offered to anyone who provides information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the vehicle.

“Please be on the lookout. Polo hijacked in Thokoza Khumalo Street. Owner shot and killed on scene,” said Kathorus Crime Watch in an appeal shared with the community.

The organisation added that all information can be shared through its hotline on 071 132 3563 or inbox on its social media channels.

The incident has once again highlighted the violent nature of hijackings across parts of Gauteng, leaving residents fearful and families devastated.

Community members are being urged to immediately alert authorities or crime prevention organisations when the vehicle is spotted.

Precautions to reduce risk when travelling:

• Stay alert when arriving or leaving home

• Avoid sitting in a parked vehicle for extended periods

• Keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed where possible

• Be aware of vehicles following you suspiciously

• Report suspicious activity in your neighbourhood immediately

• Share live locations or travel routes with trusted family members when driving alone
