WATCH: Alberton murder-accused couple: Prosecutor slams deceased’s daughter over contradictory testimony

Delichia Bekker (accused two) was slammed by the State prosecutor over contradictions in her testimony and attempting to mislead the court.

The case against the Alberton murder-accused couple, Werner Jack Schoeman (accused one) and Delichia Bekker (accused two), returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on May 22.

The pair is accused of involvement in the murder of Susan Gillian Murray, who lived in Verwoerdpark, Alberton, at the time of her death and was found dumped in Alberton North in November 2023.

Schoeman and Bekker face charges including murder, fraud, and theft. Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in her mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman, who was caught hiding in South Hills.

Bekker (accused two) takes the stand:

The trial hearing on May 22 saw Bekker take the stand to testify on events before the disappearance and subsequent discovery of her deceased mother’s body in Alberton North. Bekker explained how she met accused one (Schoeman). “We met him at a coffee shop in Alberton. Anthony and Werner knew each other before I met him,” said Bekker.

Anthony is a mysterious man whose name keeps getting mentioned in the trial. Anthony is understood to have been in a relationship with accused two (Bekker) shortly before she got into a relationship with Schoeman.

Anthony disappeared in 2023, and his family are still searching for him. Bekker told the court that Anthony was verbally and physically abusive towards her.

“I asked accused two to move in so that it could ease tensions between Anthony and me.”

Asked when she asked accused two to move in and who was present at that meeting, Bekker said: “I asked accused one to move in when we were at the coffee shop, Anthony was present too.”

This explanation drew the prosecutor’s ire.

“Ms Bekker, do you really want this court to believe that you asked accused one to move in with you in the presence of Anthony, who was your boyfriend at the time?” asked State advocate Carien Mulder.

Mulder said Bekker’s testimony did not make sense and that Bekker was trying to mislead the court. “Ms Bekker, I put it to you that your testimony does not make sense and you are trying to mislead the court,” said Mulder.

Stolen cars:

Bekker claims that her mother is the one who sold the vehicles with Anthony’s assistance. “Anthony found a buyer and my mother went there with him. I never saw my mother again after she left with Anthony,” said Bekker.
