Alberton SAPS and stakeholders join hands to visit local school

To instil good behaviour, Alberton SAPS and various stakeholders recently visited a local school within their policing precinct to conduct a school search.

Members of Alberton SAPS and other stakeholders visited Phumula Gardens Secondary School for a search that took place on February 20.

The station commander, members from the nearby stations, Phumula CPF, members of parliament, members of the legislature, MEC of education and local ward councillors were also present.

Their purpose was to enforce the law while ensuring that learners conduct themselves accordingly.

“It was alleged that learners from the school were misbehaving. After the search, we all went to the hall as leaders to find solutions to what could be done. The school principal and members from other government departments pleaded with SAPS to visit the school randomly with or without informing school management,” explained Captain Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS.

During their search, they confiscated a chessboard game, dagga, cigarettes, medication, bangles, blank bullet, chains, boxes of matches and a bag full of samoosas.

He said the management of the school also highlighted concerns about break-ins.

“The management urged the community of Phumula to bear in mind that the building and the school must be their priority to ensure a better future for children. They are future leaders, and such co-operation may only be possible once we join hands. It was concluded that there should be another follow-up visit,” Ramotshela said.

Ramotshela said enforcing discipline and good behaviour at school must be everyone’s task.
