Local councillors remove illegal signage

Local councillors sent a strong message to Alberton businesses and the surrounding areas in their fight against illegal outdoor advertising.

Please refrain from advertising on council-owned properties as all bridges are owned by the City of Ekurhuleni.

That was the message from Ward 94 Clr Samantha Nair, joined by Ward 37 Clr Ivan Naidoo, Brackendowns residents Clive Wertheimer and Devan Moonsamy, to remove illegal outdoor signage on April 15.

The group painted all the illegal business signage on the following bridges: Swartkoppies, Delphinium Street, Hennie Alberts and Kliprivier.

Nair said: “I would like to send a strong message to businesses in the area. This is against the metro’s by-laws, and if caught, you will be fined.”

The Alberton Record escalated an enquiry to the metro, asking for information on the proper outdoor advertising procedures.
