PICUP Alberton gives roadway a facelift

PICUP Alberton once again showed its commitment to making a difference in the community.

PICUP Alberton gave up their time and painted the traffic circle and corners in Alberton North on March 30.

The decision to replace the road markings in the circle on Van Riebeeck Street comes after PICUP Alberton was notified of concerns from the Alberton North business community.

The organisation then saw a need for a relatively quick and cost-effective method to improve both road safety at this busy traffic roundabout and the aesthetics of one of Alberton North’s roadways in the town’s oldest business sector.

In addition, the organisation intends to build a tiny water-wise garden in the centre of the circle to complement the existing improvements.

“We believe that maintaining a clean and well-maintained town, particularly in our business districts, will not only boost community morale but also encourage both local and non-local shoppers to support businesses in Alberton.

“By taking care of our business sectors, we anticipate positive outcomes for our town and community as a whole,” said Joeleen Smit, director and co-founder of PICUP Alberton.

PICUP Alberton, with the assistance of the Alberton North Business Community, hired six part-time workers to accomplish this project.

To support these efforts, PICUP Alberton actively seeks participation and collaboration from citizens and businesses in and around Alberton.

Anyone interested in participating in these efforts can reach PICUP Alberton through their Facebook page, ‘PICUP Alberton’.

“While the business sector contributed to the project’s budget and labour costs, using community volunteers was not practical due to liability issues.

We always recommend programmes in which volunteers can engage securely,” said Smit.

PICUP Alberton project planning includes numerous team members concentrating on diverse areas, goals, and sectors to improve Alberton’s overall well-being.

This organisation strives for a balanced strategy that ensures excellence, diversity, and collaboration among all stakeholders.

According to Smit, PICUP Alberton publicises initiatives when they are needed, rather than planning ahead of time, which allows them to efficiently respond to the community’s requirements.

PICUP Alberton is trying to increase its young audience and participation, with plans to share information on its youth division and forthcoming initiatives for them shortly, he added.
