Nominations open for South African Heroes Awards 2024

The South African Heroes Awards (SAHAs) are back with a bang for the sixth time.

The South African Heroes Awards (SAHA) 2024 has announced that this year’s event will take place on September 21, 2024, at a yet-to-be-announced venue.

This was recently announced at 27 Boxes in Melville, Johannesburg. These awards recognise and celebrate unsung heroes who are transforming their communities.

Over the last five years, the SAHAs have had amazing success with nominations coming from all regions.

“We had exceptional community leaders who won in the different categories in the awards. Some started collaborating with government and corporates on projects that further benefit their communities”, said awards founder and organiser, Amanda Matshaka.

SAHA now has 20 categories and is steadily growing. They introduced two new categories to the public-voted categories: the Community Media of the Year – carrying community-empowering stories and Community Journalist of the Year – covering community-empowering stories.

Other categories for nominations

• Youth Empowerment – uplifting young people through various programmes

• Business Empowerment – offering assistance to start-ups/small businesses to help them succeed

• SpecialiSed Care – people who take care of vulnerable groups like orphans, disabled persons, abused people, widows, or the homeless

• Community Service – voluntary community work to benefit fellow community members; including feeding programmes, or community policing forums

• Community Health – health centres initiated and run by the community members and primary health care

• Rural Development – projects that uplift rural communities,

• Women Empowerment – programmes meant for the upliftment and empowerment of women

• Community Builder of the Year Award – the overall winner voted for by finalists

• Honorary Awards of the Year – the Green Award recognises those who lead environmental conservation projects or programmes

• Ubuntu Award – recognises seasoned community builders whose projects have created other notable community builders and high achievers

• Art of Giving – recognises people who use art to uplift communities.

• Language Preservation Award – recognises people who take delight in preserving indigenous languages

• Leader of Influence – honours extraordinary leaders who set a good example and have had a beneficial impact on others

• Rights Activist of the Year – gives honour to those who fight tirelessly for human rights

• Aid Giver of the Year – honours exceptional first responders in times of disaster & distress

• Iconic Impact – celebrates an icon who has lived and continues to live their lives by giving of themselves to others to thrive in life

• Excellence in Public Service – recognises people in public service who exceed their responsibilities

• International Achiever – represents South Africa with pride abroad, changing and impacting lives.
