Gold September 2024 launches at Baragwanath, unveils iPad learning for kids
Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and its partners create awareness about childhood cancer.
Gold September 2024 was launched on September 2 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in the presence of government and medical dignitaries, members of the media and healthcare professionals.
Added to this campaign was the exciting groundbreaking announcement of the iSchoolAfrica iPad Learning Programme, through the partnership between The Core Group, iSchoolAfrica and (CHOC) Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa they will ensure that the education of children afflicted by the dreaded disease can continue their education in the hospital schools.
A vital component that is essential in a child’s development and recovery.
South Africa joins the global community in September to raise awareness about the impact of childhood cancers including leukaemia, brain cancers and lymphomas, on families and communities. It is also to acknowledge the critical role played by health professionals that support children with cancer, and their families.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death among children and adolescents worldwide.
It is estimated that 400 000 new childhood cancer cases are diagnosed each year, with around 1 000 of these occurring in South Africa, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), with leukaemia being the most common cancer diagnosed in children in South Africa according to the National Cancer Registry.
It is essential to come together in solidarity with those affected and work towards better outcomes for children with cancer.
