Alberton High steps up for Stepping Stone’s Brick by Brick campaign
Alberton High School has once again shown that its support for Stepping Stone Hospice goes far beyond a once-off contribution.
Alberton High School has stood alongside the Hospice for many years, supporting its work through volunteering at events, fundraising initiatives and the Pink Bin campaign to help raise much-needed funds towards caring for Hospice patients.
Now, with Stepping Stone’s Brick by Brick campaign officially launched, the Alberton High community has stepped forward once again.
The Blues, as the school is affectionately known, did not hesitate to get involved. Staff members have already rallied together and raised an incredible R6 000 towards the building project, which aims to help Stepping Stone build a 14-bed in-patient unit in Raceview.
Leading the charge is principal Lizelle de Bruin, who has also taken up the challenge of encouraging other schools across the region to join the initiative.
For De Bruin, supporting the campaign is about recognising that palliative care is something that can touch any family.
“This is important because it might be our own family member, or even ourselves, who needs palliative care one day. Our vision is for the campaign to become something the entire community can take ownership of, bringing together schools, learners, families and community members. Together, our efforts carry far more weight than any single contribution ever could,” she said.
De Bruin has also challenged other schools to follow Alberton High’s example and raise funds towards the initiative.
She reiterated that it is a challenge that is not simply about raising money but about teaching learners the value of compassion, service and looking after others when they need it most.
Stepping Stone CEO and founder, Tersia Burger, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the school for its continued support.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the staff and learners of Alberton High for standing with us and believing in what we’re trying to achieve. Their contribution is more than a donation; it’s a statement that our community cares about the dignity and wellbeing of those facing life-limiting illnesses,” said Burger.
The Brick by Brick campaign is built on a simple idea: that every contribution, no matter its size, can help build something that will make a lasting difference.
Schools, businesses, community organisations and individuals who would like to support Stepping Stone Hospice’s Brick by Brick campaign are encouraged to get in touch with the hospice and find out how they can contribute.
