WATCH: Airports Council International touches down in Ekurhuleni

The ACI conference saw more than 140 exhibitors from the aviation sector display their works.

CoE Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza led the city’s participation at the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa Conference and Exhibition.

ACI Africa is the international association of African airports, with more than 75 airport members operating and more than 265 airports in 54 countries. The ACI Africa membership comprises 59 business partners.

Held on September 18 at the OR Tambo International Airport, the event saw businesses in the aviation industry showcase the sector’s developments and trends.

An excited Xhakaza exchanged pleasantries with the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) CEO, Mpumi Mpofu, ACI Africa president Emanuel Chaves and ACSA board members during a tour of the exhibition.

City officials say they hope private aviation industry investment in the CoE will bring much-needed jobs for the metro’s residents and enhance the aerotropolis economy in the city.

The ACI delegates, including some from foreign countries, were treated to a traditional reed dance to generate excitement about potentially investing in the CoE.
