Ekurhuleni launches digital meter reading service

Ekurhuleni residents can now easily record and submit their water meter readings from home using the My COE App, ensuring more accurate billing and a modernised service experience.

The City of Ekurhuleni is urging residents to sign up for a self-service water meter management system, which allows them to record and submit their water meter readings from the comfort of their homes.

This innovative system is designed to enhance billing accuracy by reducing the need for estimated readings.

How it works:

Residents can use the My COE App to:

• Capture their water meter readings.

• Upload photos of the readings for verification purposes.

• Submit their readings directly to the city.

• Receive a confirmation notification once the submission is complete, offering peace of mind. The app also sends timely reminders, ensuring that residents stay on top of their utility management.

Key benefits of the system:

• Improved billing accuracy: By submitting exact readings, residents can eliminate discrepancies caused by estimates.

• Modernised process: The digital platform ensures accurate data entry and minimizes duplication.

• Verification tools: The app allows residents to upload photos of their meter readings, strengthening the credibility of the submissions.

• Enhanced location tracking: GPS coordinates link the meter readings to the correct account, ensuring accurate billing.

• Faster service delivery: The system improves consistency across customer care centres, streamlining overall service.

For those without smartphones, the city offers alternative methods:

• Visit a local customer care centre to submit readings in person.

• Allow a city-authorised meter reader to access the property and record the readings.

Additional tips for managing water bills: Residents are encouraged to regularly check their properties for internal water leaks, as even small leaks can lead to significant water loss and higher bills.

For assistance with the system, residents can contact the Siyakhokha Call Centre on 011 999 5102 or email siyakhokha@ekurhuleni.gov.za. Support is available Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 13:00.
