Volunteer with the foundation and give back to the community

Every effort, big or small, brings comfort and care to those most needing it.

The Epic Foundation (EF) has several volunteering opportunities for those looking to give back to their communities and make a meaningful impact.

Whether it’s volunteering at EF’s Steeledale office, donating essentials for the Comfort Pack Project, or offering financial support, there are many ways to contribute to the foundation’s mission.

It also invites learners to be volunteers. In doing so, they can earn community hours for projects at schools.

Volunteering at the Steeledale office

The EF invites volunteers to help at its Steeledale office every Saturday from 9:00 to noon.

Volunteers will do various tasks, including:

• sorting and organising donated items;

• packing comfort packs;

• help at fitting days for the Fairy Godmother Project;

• supporting other tasks as required.

If you are interested in volunteering, call the foundation to book a volunteer day.

Donating items for the Comfort Pack Project

The EF’s Comfort Pack Project gives personal hygiene and care items to people in difficult circumstances.

The foundation needs these donations:

• Face cloths and soaps;

• Underwear (new);

• Sanitary towels (individually sealed);

• Toothpaste and toothbrushes;

• Shampoos and conditioners;

• Deodorants;

• Hair combs/brushes, hair clips and hairbands;

• Body lotions;

• Small notebooks and pens;

• Tissues (small packs);

• Sweets;

• Lip balms or small Vaselines;

• Soft toys;

• Wet wipes;

• Plasters;

• Brown paper bags;

• Colouring books and crayons;

• Drawstring bags.

Each donation must accompany a shopping slip as proof of purchase, which allows EF to allocate volunteer hours accordingly.

These donations are essential to supporting needy people.

Handmade notebooks for comfort packs

Volunteers who enjoy crafting can create small handmade notebooks for the Comfort Pack Project.

These A6-sized notebooks, comprising 10 pages and decorated with covers or inspirational notes, are a meaningful addition to the packs.

The EF will assess their quality and neatness before allocating volunteer hours.

Assembling complete comfort packs

Another way to volunteer is by assembling complete comfort packs for women and children by placing these items in a drawstring bag:

Women’s comfort pack:

• Deodorant;

• Face cloth;

• Hair comb/brush, hair elastics and clips;

• Lip balm;

• Sanitary towels (three individually wrapped per pack);

• Shampoo;

• Small notebook and pen;

• Soap;

• Sweets;

• Tissues (small packs);

• Toothbrush and toothpaste;

• Underwear;

• Vaseline.

Children’s Comfort Pack:

• Brown paper bag;

• Chips or snacks;

• Colouring book and crayons;

• Face cloth and soap;

• Lip balm;

• Small notebook and pen;

• Soft toy;

• Surgical gloves;

• Sweets;

• Tissues (small pack);

• Toothbrush and toothpaste;

• Underwear (boy or girl);

• Vaseline;

• Wet wipes;

• Plasters.

Volunteers are responsible for organising these items into a drawstring bag.

Before hours get allocated, the foundation will assess the quality and value of the contents.

Preparing individual items for comfort packs

Volunteers can prepare individual items for the comfort packs by placing donated items into small ziplock bags.
These donations will also be assessed for quality and value before the EF allocates volunteer hours.

Financial donations

The foundation welcomes financial donations as another way to support its initiatives.

For every R300 donated, volunteers can earn one hour of volunteer time. It is an easy way for people to contribute to the foundation’s work and make a difference.

The EF is dedicated to serving the community and providing essential support to those in need.

Whether through hands-on volunteering, crafting or financial contributions, there are many ways for individuals to get involved and make a positive impact.
