Community unites to support elderly through clothing donation

Community members were reminded that small acts of generosity can have a lasting impact on those in need.

Kliprivier SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, traffic wardens and community patrollers organised an initiative to support senior citizens at the Dinukaneng Elderly Centre.

The initiative was on January 28, from 07:00 to 08:00, providing second-hand clothing to assist the NGO, facing financial challenges because of reduced funding from the Department of Social Development.

Rather than direct distribution, the centre will sell the donated clothing within the community to help them raise funds to sustain their programmes and continue providing care for the elderly.

This initiative highlights the community’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members.

In addition to the donation, elderly attendees received vital information on key social issues, including the reporting of stolen property, gender-based violence, and substance abuse.

To further raise awareness, the team distributed 50 informational pamphlets.

The organisers encouraged continued donations, emphasising that senior citizens deserve ongoing care, respect, and support.
