WATCH: Bus driver almost crashed into building after motorist skipped red traffic light
The crash happened on the corner of Bodmin Road and Penzance Street.
A bus driver in Alberton almost crashed into a building on the corner of Bodmin Road and Penzance Street in New Redruth and damaged a traffic light on the rainy morning of February 19.
Witnesses say he was in the clear, passing a green traffic light, when a red Nissan Juke 1.6 Acenta skipped a red traffic light, forcing the bus driver to swerve to avoid hitting pedestrians and other motorists.
The bus crashed into a concrete municipal dustbin on the side of the road, crushing it to pieces. It also hit and damaged the traffic light.

Fortunately, the bus stopped before ramming into building beams next to the traffic light. The lady driving the Acenta stopped after realising she had caused a potentially deadly crash.
There were no passengers on the bus, the bus driver was unharmed, and no other injuries or fatalities were reported.
The owner of the bus, Pelo Pelo, was called to the scene. “I am told the lady driving the red Nissan Juke 1.6 Acenta skipped a red traffic light, which forced my driver to swerve. I am grateful that he is uninjured and well, and nobody got hurt,” said the owner of Pelo’s Tours.

“I have since taken down the registration plates and contact details of the Nissan driver.
“When I spoke to the lady, she apologised and said she was going through personal problems. She also said she was not in her right state of mind and was unaware she skipped a red traffic light until she saw the bus swerve,” said Pelo.
Towing personnel were on the scene, and a tow truck was said to be on its way to help take the bus away.
