Cruel pigeon shootings plague Alberton, SPCA calls for action

The SPCA warns that harming pigeons is a criminal offence under the Animal Protection Act and urges residents to report incidents confidentially.

Pigeon shooting has become a serious and ongoing issue in the Alberton area, and it needs to stop.

This practice is cruel and violates the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962, which protects all animals from unnecessary suffering.

Sipho Letsomalo from SPCA explained they have been experiencing a lot of pigeon killings in Alberton.

“We are having a problem with the killing of pigeons. Residents are complaining, and we just want to inform the public that the killing of these pigeons is a crime. Pigeons, like all living creatures, have a right to exist free from harm. Shooting or harming them is a criminal offence, and those responsible can face prosecution,” he said.

The SPCA urges the community to speak up.

If you have any information that may lead to the identification or prosecution of individuals involved in pigeon shooting, contact the Alberton SPCA. Your voice can help to protect the voiceless.
