Pedestrian’s body found in stream after fatal N12 crash near Alberton
Emergency crews recovered the body of a male pedestrian on Tuesday evening, a day after a collision on the N12 West near Voortrekker Road.
A fatal incident that occurred on the evening of May 26, on the N12 West near Voortrekker Road leading into Alberton, has caused the death of a pedestrian.
The victim’s body was found a distance from the accident scene, downstream in a nearby stream the following evening.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred at approximately 22:00.
The driver involved allegedly left the scene and later went to the Alberton SAPS to report the incident.
Wadeville Fire and Rescue was dispatched shortly afterwards but could not locate either the accident scene or the victim at the time.
It was not until Tuesday evening, May 27, that a breakthrough occurred. At approximately 20:30, the family of the deceased, accompanied by the driver, returned to the area and located the man’s body in a stream near the roadway.
Wadeville and Alberton Fire and Rescue teams again went to the scene.
The Gauteng Provincial Government Ambulance Services arrived and declared the man deceased.

An EMPD photographer documented the scene while fire and rescue personnel utilised ropes and a basket stretcher to recover the body, which was brought to the surface at around 00:15 in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Forensic Pathology Service later collected the body.
The scene was handed over to the SAPS, which has launched an investigation into the incident.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased. Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information to come forward.
