WATCH: Guard of honour held for dedicated Alberton SAPS officer Captain Hlabangwane

Alberton SAPS members, local security companies, and patrollers gathered to honour retiring Captain Morris Hlabangwane for his decades of dedicated service.

A guard of honour was held on June 25 for Captain Samson Morris Hlabangwane, who officially retired after nearly four decades of service in the South African Police Service.

The farewell was hosted by Alberton SAPS, with CPS Security, local patrollers, and community members showing up in numbers to pay tribute.

The 57-year-old officer, who spent 19 years serving the Alberton community, stood proudly as colleagues and partners lined the station yard to salute his dedication and bravery.

“I have worked hard for my community and served it well. I have no regrets,” said Hlabangwane in a brief interview on the day.

CPS Security and community patrollers, who worked closely with him over the years, described him as disciplined, approachable, and dependable.

Reflecting on his collaboration with local crime-fighting structures, he said, “CPF members and patrollers worked directly with me, including security companies like Fox Security, CPS Security, SOG, and SWS. I never had issues with them. We worked well together, and I think they’ve lost something with me leaving.”

Hlabangwane’s career began in 1988 and spanned South Africa’s historic transition from apartheid to democracy. In Alberton, he became a respected and familiar figure, known not only for his discipline but also for his commitment to public safety.

His send-off marked the end of an era and left a legacy of service that many in the Alberton community say will not be forgotten.
