Alberton power outage: Load rotation in effect following substation vandalism

Vandalism at a key Alberton substation has triggered a power rotation schedule across several suburbs. Here’s what residents need to know.

Residents in Alberton are advised of ongoing power disruptions after one of the transformers at the Truida Substation was damaged due to vandalism.

The area is now operating on a single transformer while repairs are being carried out.

According to Izak Berg of the Independent Ratepayers Association of South Africa (IRASA), to prevent overloading and a total power failure, a load rotation schedule has been implemented until further notice.

The affected areas include

•New Redruth

•Newmarket Park

•South Crest

The outage rotation will affect different suburbs at specific times:

•15:00 to 18:00 – Alberton North

•18:00 to 21:00 – South Crest

•21:00 to 00:00 – New Redruth

Residents are urged to plan ahead and use electricity sparingly during this period.
