Community invited to support fundraising Family Fun Doggy event at Parklands High School
Parklands High School teams up with Stepping Stone Hospice for a Family Fun Doggy event on September 27, encouraging community donations to improve school facilities and support its learners.
Parklands High School has teamed up with Stepping Stone Hospice for a Family Fun Doggy event on September 27 from 9:00 till late.
The community is invited to come in great numbers to support this fun-filled fundraiser.
The event will feature musical chairs, best-dressed spring dog-and-owner, dog-and-owner look-alike, and dog-and-owner egg-and-spoon race.
Locals can expect tasty treats, entertainment, inflatables, and a variety of stalls selling different items, with amazing prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
Regarding the Family Fun Doggy event, here are some safety tips for furry friends:
• Ensure your dog has constant access to fresh water.
• Never leave your dog in a parked vehicle, even with windows cracked.
• Consider bringing a cooling mat or wet towel for your pet to lie on.
“People don’t have to pay an entry fee, but we would appreciate any donations to the school,” said the principal, Robert Brown.
The school offers extra classes on Saturdays for its matrics, which is a financial challenge to sustain.

Last year, Parklands High achieved an 86% matric pass rate, and the school now aspires to reach 100%.
The community can donate anything that could benefit the school, such as flowers, food for the matric learners, paint, or other supplies.
“We hold cross-night classes, and our learners need to eat. We are also working on establishing a soup kitchen for those who don’t have enough to eat,” Mr Brown added.
Nicholas Mbongo, a matriculant and top learner at the school since Grade Eight, highlighted the school’s progress.
“Many say that Parklands isn’t the best school, but that’s not true. The school has improved significantly, including teachers, academics, and extracurricular activities. We competed in many academic competitions and won several. As one of the top learners, I can testify to the school’s progress,” he said.
Nicholas scored 94% in economics last year and aims for 100% this year.
Tsholofelo Mbongo, another matric learner, also appealed for donations to support the school.
“We need funds. Not all of us can afford to buy lunch at the tuck shop. We come from different backgrounds. We also need funds to improve our school toilets,” she explained.
The school has recently started a basketball team, but lacks equipment and facilities.
Quinton van Heerden, one of the selected students representing the Gauteng Basketball League, explained their current situation: “With limited resources, we were selected for the league. We practise on the netball court, which lacks backboards, painted lines, and proper facilities. We have one ball and one pump. We are requesting funding for the sport,” he said.

The school is seeking donations across all departments, emphasising that no contribution is too small. The community is encouraged to support the school’s efforts to provide quality education.
