WATCH: Alberton community shows support at Shave or Spray Fundraiser for brave 6-year-old Kye
Childhood Cancer Aawareness Month ended with a community-driven fundraiser in Alberton, raising funds and hope for six-year-old Kye Ludeman.
The Alberton community came together at New Market Motor Co. in Raceview for the Shave or Spray fundraiser in support of six-year-old Kye Ludeman, who was diagnosed with stage 3 Large B-Cell Lymphoma in July.
For R50 per shave or spray, locals helped raise funds to cover his medical treatment while showing solidarity with Kye and his family.
Kye’s mother, Kayla, shared her family’s emotional journey: “Our lives changed in a single week. One moment, we were celebrating the arrival of our beautiful baby girl, and the next, we were sitting in a hospital being told that our six-year-old son has cancer.”

Kye is a bright, mischievous, and loving boy who enjoys puzzles, his iPad, karate, riding his quad bike, and watching Henry Danger.
Above all, he treasures his role as big brother, patiently waiting six years for his baby sister and caring for her with gentleness and protection.
Kayla said the diagnosis came after a swollen tonsil failed to respond to antibiotics, prompting further tests.
A PET scan revealed that the cancer had spread to Kye’s kidney, liver, pancreas, and abdomen.
He has started four rounds of chemotherapy, enduring side effects with remarkable courage.
