Brackendowns CPF is first runner-up at Gauteng Provincial Excellence Awards
Proactive crime prevention and strong community support earn Brackendowns CPF provincial recognition.
Brackendowns CPF has continued its winning streak, securing first runner-up for best CPF in Gauteng at the Gauteng Provincial Excellence Awards.
The ceremony took place at the Velmoré Hotel in Erasmia, where top safety stakeholders gathered to honour outstanding service in crime prevention and community protection.
Brackendowns CPF congratulated Pretoria Moot CPF, the best CPF winner in Gauteng.
This latest accolade follows Brackendowns CPF being named CPF of the Year in Ekurhuleni, a district-level award presented during a glitzy ceremony at the Alberton Civic Centre on October 31.
Both achievements mark an important milestone for the organisation, which has worked tirelessly to strengthen safety in Brackendowns.
Speaking to the Alberton Record, Brackendowns CPF public relations officer Werner van Wyk said the team was honoured to receive this provincial recognition.
“This achievement reflects the dedication, teamwork, and unwavering commitment of our members and partners. We are proud of what we have accomplished together. It motivates us to continue serving our community with greater passion and excellence,” said Van Wyk.
What sets them apart
Van Wyk said Brackendowns CPF stood out at the provincial level due to its strong hands-on approach.
“We have a dedicated team that is always willing to go the extra mile. We respond quickly, support our community in every way possible, and work closely with partners to find solutions rather than wait for them.”
The CPF believes the judges noted its strong visibility, proactive policing, and rapid response efforts.
Their work spans weekly joint operations with SAPS, EMPD, and private security companies, as well as their critical assistance in cases involving missing persons, hijackings, kidnappings, and other high-priority crimes.
The CPF also participates in cross-border operations with neighbouring CPFs, strengthening crime prevention beyond their immediate sector.
Community at the heart of success
Van Wyk emphasised that the award belonged not only to the team but also to the Brackendowns community.

“Our success is largely due to the incredible support we receive from residents, through financial contributions, donations, and their willingness to get involved. Their trust empowers us to operate effectively. We wouldn’t be where we are today without them.”

He extended appreciation to all patrollers, local security companies, SAPS and EMPD partners, whose collaborative efforts underpin the CPF’s achievements.
Building on a strong legacy
Brackendowns CPF has been recognised before, having won major awards in 2014 and 2017.
The latest victories reaffirm its position as one of the leading CPFs in the province.
With momentum on its side, the CPF is already setting its sights on new goals.
“Following our district and provincial recognitions, our next goal is to be nominated for the national award this year,” Van Wyk said.
“We are also upgrading our telecommunication systems to enhance communication, response times, and overall efficiency during patrols.”
A leader’s pride
Brackendowns CPF chairperson Geoff Steyn shared the personal significance of the recognition.

“This award is a source of pride and motivation. Having been part of the CPF since 2003 and now serving a third term as chairperson, I have witnessed firsthand how our team and structure have grown stronger year after year. Every new member brings fresh energy, and everyone’s contribution plays a vital role in our success.”
Despite long hours and daily challenges, the CPF says simple moments of appreciation from community members keep them motivated and committed.
As they celebrate provincial success, Brackendowns CPF remains focused on its core mission: working hand-in-hand with residents and law enforcement to create a safer community for all.
