Brackendowns SAPS confirms gunfire investigation at Kromvlei Cemetery
Police investigate two reported funeral-related shooting incidents as residents hand over bullet casings as evidence.
The Brackendowns SAPS and the CoE have responded to concerns about gunfire linked to funerals at the Kromvlei Cemetery.
Brackendowns station commander Colonel Jacoline van der Westhuizen confirmed that the police responded to the shooting reported on November 22 and 23.
“I am only aware of the incident on November 22 and November 23. It was brought to my attention by Brackendowns CPF. The Brackendowns Community Service Centre (CSC) was tasked with attending with Crime Prevention members.
“By the time they attended, the shooting had stopped, and the perpetrators were not at the cemetery.”
She said the CPF alerted the SAPS again the next day.
“On November 23, I tasked the CSC and the Crime Prevention Unit vehicles to attend to the complaint. Two vehicles with four members from Ekurhuleni also assisted. A case was opened as exhibits were handed in, and it is being investigated.”
She confirmed that residents had handed over bullets and other physical evidence, which the SAPS logged as exhibits.
