WATCH: Alberton voters, surrounding areas urged to register online before deadline
Alberton residents and surrounding areas who missed the final in-person voter registration weekend still have time to register or update their voter details online before the voters’ roll closes.
Residents across Alberton who were unable to attend the final in-person voter registration weekend have one last opportunity to make sure they are ready to cast their ballots in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has reminded eligible voters that they can still register to vote or update their registration details online using its safe, quick and easy online registration portal.
The commission urged residents not to leave it until the last minute, saying: “Don’t wait until Proclamation Day.”
According to the IEC, online voter registration will remain open until Friday, August 7, after the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) proclaims the official Local Government Election date.
The IEC encouraged residents to register today and make sure you’re ready to participate in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The IEC also highlights that the voters’ roll is closing soon, with three days to go before registrations close.
The deadline means:
• No new registrations
• No updates to existing voter registration details
• Election timetable will be released
For Alberton residents who still need to register or update their information, the IEC said the online portal remains available and provides a convenient way to complete the process before the deadline.
Residents are encouraged to act now to ensure their names and details appear correctly on the voters’ roll ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
