WATCH: Alberton’s Frank and Violet Castelyn mark 64 years of happiness in marriage

Frank (87) and Violet Castelyn (84) say one of their rules for a long-lasting union is to never go to bed upset with each other.

A couple from New Redruth, Alberton, are celebrating 64 years of joy in marriage.

Frank (87) and Violet Castelyn (84), who have been living in Alberton since 1976, got married in 1961.
They later had a son who now lives in New Zealand.

Violet jokingly refers to Frank as her washing machine.

“Frank helps me with everything. He still washes all our laundry and rinses it. I only put it out on the washing line to dry,” said Violet.

“Frank also makes me breakfast in bed every day. He used to run me a bath every day before I would leave for work,” added Violet while beaming with pride.

The couple told the Alberton Record that one of their rules for a long-lasting union is to never go to bed upset with each other.

“If there is a point of disagreement, we sit and talk about it. That is a commitment we made to each other,” said Frank.

He also emphasised the importance of helping the household with domestic chores.

“I help Violet with everything. I cook, wash the laundry, and do everything that Violet does in the house. I help as much as I can,” added Frank.

Celebrating their 63rd anniversary last year, the couple told this publication that they thank God for keeping them united after so many years.
