Community enjoys picnic and raffle at Jackson Dam
Raffle draw and community picnic raise vital funds for senior care, children’s facilities, and mental health initiatives in Joburg South
On December 6, the Jackson Dam in Alberton hosted the Village of Love’s raffle draw and family picnic day, an event that combined laughter, community spirit, and charitable ambition into one memorable experience.
The festivities ran throughout the day, culminating in the raffle draw where lucky participants walked away with exciting prizes.
The picnic fundraiser, organised by the Village of Love NGO, attracted families from across the region who enjoyed a fun-filled day.

Proceeds from the event, including raffle ticket sales and donations, were earmarked for the Village of Love Project, which supports a range of ambitious initiatives.
Directors of the organisation used the gathering to showcase plans for constructing a senior care centre and luxury retirement villas, a children’s facility with a cultural centre, and expanded mental health services. All of these projects will serve the Joburg South community.

“The day was filled with fun, games, and yummy cupcakes, but the real flavour was the community’s commitment to our vision,” said Village of Love director Nalini Maharaj.
“We’re turning dreams of dignified senior living and vibrant youth programmes into reality, and events like this fuel our mission,” she continued.
Raffle tickets were still available on the day, and donations were welcome.

The successful picnic not only raised vital funds but also highlighted the Village of Love’s dedication to building a compassionate community through large-scale social projects that will benefit seniors, children, and mental health patients for years to come.
