Operation Christmas Child Vision Trip delegates visit Eden Park to witness community impact
Twenty delegates from the United States visited Eden Park to see how Tabernacle of David Ministries is using Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts and Gospel outreach to transform the lives of children and families.
Tabernacle of David Ministries welcomed 20 delegates from the United States on June 20 as part of an Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Vision Trip, after being selected by the OCC National Leadership in South Africa to showcase its children’s outreach programme.
Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, partners with local churches to distribute shoebox gifts filled with essential items, toys and school supplies while sharing the gospel with children.
The delegates visited Eden Park to observe how the ministry uses the shoebox gifts and OCC teaching material to reach vulnerable children and present the Gospel in a way they can understand.
The outreach, led by Pastor Anthony Wynkwaardt, was attended by about 100 children between the ages of two and 14, together with many parents.
During the visit, delegates watched Bible lessons, experienced worship, games and gift distribution, and interacted with children, volunteers and parents to learn more about the programme’s impact.
Many of the children received a gift for the first time in their lives. As they opened their shoeboxes, the visitors witnessed their excitement and gratitude, giving delegates a firsthand look at the difference the programme is making in local communities.
Parents also shared testimonies about the positive changes they have seen in their children since joining the ministry. They said their children have become more disciplined, respectful and obedient at home, while applying the life skills and values they have learned through the programme.
Pastor Anthony Wynkwaardt said being chosen to host the Vision Trip was a great honour.
“We were privileged to show the delegates how we share the gospel with children and care for vulnerable families. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces and hearing testimonies from parents reminded us that this ministry is making a real difference in our community,” he said.
The visit celebrated the partnership between Tabernacle of David Ministries and Operation Christmas Child, which has been working together for the past three years to reach children with the Gospel and provide ongoing discipleship through The Greatest Journey programme.
The ministry also continues to support vulnerable families through community outreach and feeding programmes, with the Vision Trip highlighting how faith, practical care and strong partnerships are helping to bring hope to children and families in Eden Park.
