Update: Leaking electricity cabinet in Brackenhurst repaired

The repair follows days of concern from residents about water flowing into the street and potential risks to the public.

The leaking electricity cabinet at 11 Le Maitre Street in Brackenhurst has been repaired following intervention by the City of Ekurhuleni.

According to the city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the leak was fixed on February 4, after a planned power cut coordinated with the Energy Department and a water shutdown carried out by Water Operations.

The resident who initially reported the issue confirmed that contractors arrived on the morning of February 4 and completed the repairs shortly before 13:00.

“We’re glad that it is now fixed and hopefully our water pressure will return to normal soon,” the resident said, thanking Alberton Record for assisting with escalating the matter to the municipality.

The repair follows concerns previously raised about water leaking from an electricity cabinet, which had sparked safety fears among residents and highlighted ongoing water losses.
