WATCH: Ekurhuleni city manager on a working visit to Alberton and surrounding areas

City Manager Kagiso Lerutla visited Alberton and Thokoza, where he oversaw the vetting of EMPD officials and engaged with workers at the Thokoza Fire Station.

City Manager Kagiso Lerutla led an oversight visit to Alberton and Thokoza, overseeing the vetting of EMPD officials at the Alberton Internal Audit Department on February 16.

“City Manager Kagiso Lerutla and departmental heads oversaw the annual vetting process that included biometric fingerprint scanning and the criminal record vetting systems process,” said the CoE in a statement, adding that it intends to roll out the process in phases to keep its operations running without interruption.

After the vetting, Lerutla proceeded to the Thokoza Fire Station, where he addressed workers’ concerns.

“Staff were encouraged to openly share concerns, reinforcing a culture of transparency and accountability,” read the statement.

City manager’s commitment to workers:

• Filling critical posts internally before external recruitment;

• Activating at least three internal fleet repair workshops by June;

• Strengthening law enforcement in high-risk areas to protect staff;

• Assessing facility improvements to enhance service delivery and firefighter well-being.

A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to review the progress achieved on these commitments.
