Ekurhuleni mayor unveils reshaped leadership to improve governance
Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has unveiled a reshaped mayoral committee aimed at stabilising governance and accelerating service delivery in the City of Ekurhuleni.
The Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, has welcomed seven newly appointed Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs), describing the reshuffle as a decisive step towards strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the metro.
The mayor announced the changes on February 17 evening, emphasising that the reconfigured executive is intended to enhance stability, cooperation and responsiveness to residents’ needs.
Despite the move, both ActionSA and the Economic Freedom Fighters have rejected participation in the new mayoral committee.
The newly appointed MMCs were nonetheless sworn in on the morning of February 18.
The committee comprises five members from the African National Congress, one representative from the Patriotic Alliance, and one from the National Freedom Party.
In his statement, Xhakaza said that the new executive team is expected to prioritise improved coordination between departments and accelerate service delivery across Ekurhuleni’s communities.
The following portfolios constitute the new executive:
• Metro Utilities (Trading) Services: Clr Jean Sthato
• Metro Operations and Maintenance: Clr Nomadlozi Nkosi
• Development Planning and Real Estate: Clr Dino Peterson
• Roads and Transport: Clr Lindiwe Mnguni
• Community Safety: Clr Mzayifani Ngwenya
• Corporate Shared Services: Clr Siphumule Ntombela
• Finance and Strategy: Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi
The mayor expressed confidence that the newly sworn-in committee will work collaboratively to address service delivery challenges and restore public confidence in the metro’s administration, despite political tensions surrounding the reshuffle.
