Community fundraiser launched for Alberton rugby player in coma in China
Family and supporters are raising funds for Divan Aucamp after meningitis and a stroke left the former Alberton High learner hospitalised abroad.
Divan Aucamp, a former learner at Alberton High School and a player for Elande, needs your help.
His relatives are requesting the public’s assistance in raising funds to cover his medical expenses. Still in his early twenties, Divan was diagnosed with meningitis and suffered a stroke. He has been in a coma in China since January.
McDonald’s Alberton called for a fundraiser in collaboration with Alberton Rugby Club. This will take place on March 28 from 11:00 to 13:00.

A certain percentage of all family meals sold inside McDonald’s will go towards the fundraising. Alberton rugby players will also be at McDonald’s to join supporters.
“We are calling on the community to support this fundraiser, as well as all surrounding primary and high schools and sports clubs to raise funds at their schools and clubs in support of Divan. Funds can be deposited into Divan’s Back-a-Buddy account using school names as a reference. We are also calling on Alberton businesses to contribute towards the back-a-buddy fund using your company’s name as a reference,” said Louis Odendal from the rugby club.

From 14:00 onwards, donations can be made at Alberton Rugby Club’s entrance. A percentage of the income made from meals sold at the club’s restaurant will also go towards the back-a-buddy fundraising.
