WATCH: SAVECD Forum hosts networking breakfast event for ECD principals

The South African Visionary ECD (SAVECD) Forum continues working towards building a strong network of ECD leaders who support one another, share knowledge and strengthen the quality of early childhood development within their communities.

More than 140 early childhood development (ECD) principals gathered for a networking breakfast hosted by the South African Visionary ECD (SAVECD) Forum at the Harvard Café Restaurant recently, on March 10.

Located at Rand Airport in Germiston, the venue welcomed principals from ECD centres across Alberton, Krugersdorp, Soshanguve, Germiston and other surrounding areas for a morning focused on collaboration, inspiration and knowledge sharing.

The event provided a valuable platform for ECD leaders to connect, share experiences, and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the sector, while enjoying a buffet breakfast and networking.

Officials from the Department of Basic Education, Ekurhuleni South District, attended the gathering to provide guidance and support to ECD centres.

One of the highlights of the morning was the opportunity for principals to share inspiring stories about their centres and the impact they are making within their communities.

The gathering also recognised the two male principals present, acknowledging their contributions to a sector largely led by women.

SAVECD Forum founder and chairlady Lenda Sibanyoni-Muzei delivered the closing address and encouraged principals to continue supporting one another as they strengthen the ECD sector.

“As ECD principals, we are not just running centres. We are shaping the future of our communities by investing in the lives of young children every day,” said Sibanyoni-Muzei.

She added that although the role of a principal carries many responsibilities and can sometimes feel lonely, it also creates opportunities for many households and plays a vital role in shaping the future of young children.

During the event, principals also received appreciation gifts, including stationery packs from Waltons, calendars and planners from Maskew Miller, and vouchers from PNA.
