R20k win helps Raceview resident reunite with his mother
A R50 Club 2000 ticket turned into a life-changing R20 000 prize for Raceview resident Carel Grunewald, allowing him to finally travel to Gqeberha to celebrate his mother's birthday after financial constraints forced him to postpone the trip.
There were smiles all around when the 81st Club 2000 draw (May 2026) recently took place, with one lucky winner receiving a life-changing surprise.
Walking away with the first prize of a whopping R20 000 was Carel Grunewald (ticket number 2609), who only joined Stepping Stone Hospice’s Club 2000 fundraiser in March, making his win even more special.
He never imagined that just a few months later, he would be celebrating a life-changing prize. For Carel, the prize came at exactly the right time.
He shared that he had hoped to travel to Gqeberha [Eastern Cape] in April to visit his mother, but financial constraints forced him to postpone the trip.
Thanks to his Club 2000 winnings, he will now be able to make the journey and celebrate his mother’s upcoming birthday in August.
“The money really came in handy. I’m looking forward to spending time with my mom and celebrating this special milestone with her,” said Carel.
Also celebrating their good fortune were:
• Second prize (R2 000): Sandra Struck Meyer (ticket number 2682)
• Third prize (R1 000): Kidz@Play Pre-School (ticket number 2923)
• Fourth prize (R500): Wimpie Van Schoor (ticket number 1313)
• Fifth prize (R500): Ray Shaer (ticket number 1094)
• Sixth prize (R500): David O’Brien (ticket number 2308)
• Seventh prize (R500): Kidz&Crayonz Pre-School (ticket number 2990)
Some winners donated a portion of their winnings back to Stepping Stone, a COHSASA and 5-Star APCC-accredited NPO. Their kindness is greatly appreciated and helps ensure that patients and their families continue to receive the dignified and compassionate care they deserve.
Stepping Stone extends its heartfelt thanks to every Club 2000 member for their continued support.
“Club 2000 tickets are priced at just R50 each, making it an easy and affordable way to get involved and support a good cause. There is no limit to how many tickets you can buy, so participants are welcome to purchase as many as they like, increasing their chances of winning while helping us raise vital funds for our patients,” said Tersia Burger, Stepping Stone Hospice founder and CEO.
Tersia reiterated that transparency remains at the heart of the Club 2000 draw process.
“We place a high value on transparency and fairness. The draw is conducted live using a random number generator, ensuring every entrant has an equal opportunity to win. This openness is something we are deeply committed to, and it gives our supporters confidence in the integrity of the process,” she said.
She encouraged community members to join the Club 2000 fundraiser.
