UPDATE | Fault found in Alberton as power restoration gets under way

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) says technicians have located the fault behind the power outage affecting five Alberton suburbs, with electricity expected to be restored by 17:00.

Residents in parts of Alberton could have their electricity restored by 17:00 after technicians located the fault responsible for the widespread outage.

CoE confirmed that technicians have identified the source of the outage and that repair work is now under way.

According to the city’s latest update, “technicians located the fault and repairs are under way. The estimated restoration time is 17h00.”The outage reportedly continues to affect Alberton North, Florentia, South Crest, Alberante and New Redruth.

The latest update follows an earlier notice that technicians were investigating the cause of the outage before an estimated restoration time (ERT) could be determined.

Residents in the affected suburbs are encouraged to remain patient while repair teams work to restore electricity by the estimated 17:00 deadline.
