Tutela Family Care is marking Women’s Month by launching a sanitary product drive aimed at helping young girls stay in schools and continue their education with confidence and dignity.

The initiative forms part of Tutela Alberton’s early intervention and prevention services, which work closely with schools to identify and address social challenges affecting learners’ education and well-being.

Several girls regularly miss school during their menstrual cycles because they cannot afford sanitary products. This form of period poverty can cause learners to miss up to a week of school each month, affecting their academic progress, confidence, mental well-being, and future opportunities.

To help address this challenge, Tutela will provide the schools with sanitary products that will be available to female learners whenever they need them. The goal is to remove one of the barriers preventing girls from attending school consistently and participating fully in their education.

This year’s Women’s Month theme at Tutela is Empowering Future Change Makers. The organisation believes that keeping girls in school is one of the most meaningful ways to invest in the future, giving young women the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities they need to become tomorrow’s leaders and changemakers.

Tutela also hopes to encourage the community to play a role in creating safe, supportive, and empowering environments for women and children. Individuals, businesses, and organisations are invited to donate sanitary pads and other menstrual hygiene products.

Donations can be dropped off at the Tutela Alberton offices at 18 Lenin Street, Raceview, Alberton.
