Kliprivier SAPS and Department of Health take GBV awareness campaign to Boitumelo informal settlement
Residents of the Boitumelo informal settlement received information on gender-based violence, crime prevention and healthcare services during a joint awareness campaign led by Kliprivier SAPS and the Department of Health.
Kliprivier SAPS, in partnership with stakeholders and the Department of Health, recently hosted a Community Safety Awareness Campaign at the Boitumelo informal settlement mobile clinic.
The initiative focused on raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) while also encouraging residents to make use of essential healthcare services offered through the mobile clinic.
According to a media statement released on behalf of Kliprivier station commander Lieutenant Colonel Nompumelelo Mirriam Dlamini, the campaign forms part of SAPS’ ongoing crime prevention efforts aimed at strengthening community safety through education, visible policing and collaboration with government departments.
The statement highlighted that gender-based violence remains a serious challenge affecting communities and reaffirmed SAPS’ commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, particularly women, children and other vulnerable groups.
Residents were urged to report incidents of abuse and make use of the available support services.
“GBV is a crime and will be dealt with decisively within the confines of the law,” the statement said.
Health officials also encouraged community members to take advantage of the mobile clinic’s services, including health screenings, counselling and treatment available on site.
SAPS called on community leaders, faith-based organisations and civil society to continue working with law enforcement to combat gender-based violence and help build safer, healthier communities.
