WATCH: Men gather in Alberton to stand against GBV
Ligstad hosts discussions on gender-based violence, legal matters and personal responsibility as men are encouraged to support one another and strengthen their communities.
Men from Alberton gathered at Ligstad in Alberton North on Friday for a Men’s Morning focused on accountability, empathy, action, and stronger communities.
Held from 10:00 to12:00, the morning brought men together for discussions focused on becoming better men, making positive choices and supporting one another.
The event included talks on gender-based violence and legal matters, while also creating space to address social and spiritual issues affecting men, families and communities.

Roelf Strydom, who works with spiritual crime prevention alongside Life on the Streets (LOTS) and the Gideons International, said the event focused on encouraging men to take responsibility.
“We hosted a men’s event that was focused on men being real men and addressed legal issues, social issues and spiritual issues,” Strydom said.
The event’s message was centred on the belief that stronger men can contribute to stronger families and communities.
The gathering highlighted accountability, empathy and action, with a call for men to support one another. Strydom said men’s role was particularly important in the current environment.
“We believe that a healthy man is somebody who can look after his family, look after his wife, and look after his children,” he said.
“On gender-based violence, we really think that men can make a difference in this country and in Alberton specifically,” Strydom said.
The morning also featured discussions around standing against gender-based violence and understanding legal rights, with the overall message encouraging men to build one another up. Strydom thanked those who attended, the speakers and the police involved in the event. “We really enjoyed it,” he said.
