WATCH: Government conducts labour and compliance inspections in Alrode
Deputy ministers and Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza led a multidisciplinary operation aimed at enforcing labour and immigration laws and workplace safety standards.
The Department of Employment and Labour, in partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni and other government departments, conducted multidisciplinary inspections across Ekurhuleni on Tuesday.
Deputy ministers Jomo Sibiya, Njabulo Nzuza and Mmapaseka Steve Letsike led the operation, along with Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza.
According to officials, the inspections aim to enforce compliance with labour and immigration laws while strengthening efforts to combat crime.
Xhakaza provided an overview of the importance of the multidisciplinary high-impact operation, noting that these operations are vital for protecting workers’ rights, promoting safe and lawful workplaces, ensuring fair business practices and strengthening efforts to combat crime.

The team visited a steel manufacturing company in Alrode, Alberton, with further inspections expected to continue across the city.
“We are on site to make sure by-laws and safety standards are upheld across Ekurhuleni. We are focused on Alrode [on Tuesday] as there are many manufacturing companies here,” said Xhakaza.
