WATCH: Eden Park runners honoured Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo with long run
An “In Her Honour” long run took place from Eden Park to Mall of the South on September 20, in memory of runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo.
The running community gathered for a special ‘In Her Honour’ long run on September 20, starting in Eden Park and ending at Mall of the South.
Presented by Awesome Beautiful Space and Awesome Runners Athletic Club, the event started at 06:00 and offered participants three distance options: 25km, 10km and 15km.
The run honoured Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo, the 38-year-old runner whose death deeply affected the running community.
Moselakgomo, known as Tsontso to her family and friends, was remembered as a mother, runner, churchgoer, and lover of music and running.
She had gone out for her usual afternoon run from her home in Kempton Park on September 9 and did not return. Her body was later found in the Rhodesfield area and identified by her family.
The Eden Park event provided runners with an opportunity to honour her memory through the activity she loved.
Participants took part under the theme ‘Black’, with the 06:00 start setting the tone for the long run from Eden Park to Mall of the South.
The event was part of a wider expression of remembrance from members of the running community, with runners also gathering previously for a memorial run in Tsontso’s honour.
