Eden Park prepares for 50th anniversary milestone
The 50th Commemoration Committee is inviting schools, businesses, organisations and residents to help make the December milestone celebration a community-wide success.
The Eden Park 50th Commemoration Committee is calling on organisations and community members to help support the area’s half-century celebrations.
The milestone event will take place on December 16 at the Eden Park Stadium, bringing the community together to celebrate its history, heritage and people.
The commemoration will go beyond marking 50 years, with the programme aimed at remembering the community’s history, honouring those who helped build Eden Park and preserving its heritage for future generations.
The day will feature storytelling, music, art and cultural expression, while also showcasing local sports, musicians, entertainers and other talent.
Schools encouraged to get involved
The committee is calling on schools in and around Eden Park to help spread the word about the celebrations among learners, parents, teachers and the wider school community.
School leadership is encouraged to share information about the event through assemblies, newsletters, circulars, WhatsApp groups, social media and other communication platforms.
Learners are also encouraged to participate in sporting, artistic, musical, cultural and storytelling activities as part of the celebrations.
The committee wants young people to learn more about Eden Park’s history by speaking to parents, grandparents and older residents about their memories and experiences of the community.
These conversations could help preserve stories that might otherwise be lost while creating stronger connections between generations.
Businesses and organisations urged to support celebrations
The committee is also appealing to businesses and organisations to contribute through financial support, in-kind donations or partnerships.
Sponsorship opportunities can be tailored to organisations’ values and marketing objectives, and contributions are welcome in different forms.
Religious leaders and faith-based organisations are also being encouraged to help spread information about the celebrations and encourage members of their congregations to participate.
The committee said the celebrations are intended to be for the community and by the community, and called on residents, businesses, schools, organisations, and community leaders to help make the 50th anniversary a meaningful milestone.
