Neighbours fight fire

We the undermentioned owners of 17 Renonkel Street, Brackenhurst wish to express our sincere gratitude to our neighbours and fellow occupants of Renonkel Street, Brackenhurst.

ALBERTON – We wish to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their quick response and selfless behaviour in saving us from incurring further damage to our property and the neighbouring properties.

While visiting family in Eldorado Park, we received calls from the neighbours informing us that our thatch lappa was on fire.

Needless to say: I rushed through and on arrival found a few neighbours who used their initiative to get into my yard to put the fire out.

I heard how they tried contacting the fire department and initially did not receive any response from them. One neighbour told how he was on hold for 10 minutes and was informed by the operator to phone another number.

Eventually when the fire department turned up, the fire had been extinguished by my neighbours. I believe they came with buckets, and took water from the swimming pool. One neighbour put his hose over the fence and so helped to douse the fire.

Thank you to Morne, Ronnie , Bertie, Hennie, Paul, Chris, Mandy, their families and everybody else whom I did not mention for their effort.

Again there is truth to the saying “no man is an island”; it is very satisfying to know that you are staying amongst people who care.

May God find a way to reward each and every one of you. Thanks!

Clive and Desiree, 17 Renonkel Street
